          Tea Dying

If you are intrested in making your bone tube beads or your spacer beads look antique. Then what you need to do is place your white bone beads in a large dish, depending on how many beads you have one tea bag will dye a full breakfast bowl worth. Then pour boiling water over them and leave for 24hrs and care must be taken after the dying process to rinse and dry the beads well. Take care using hot water!

Bone is a porous material that takes dye well. Tea, food colouring, or fabric dyes can all be used. Since these dying mediums can be water soluble, the bone may not be permanently dyed. If so, there is a danger of fading from the sun or leaching out when exposed to perspiration.
