What Tools Do I Need? 

 

 

 

 

4 IN 1 PLIERS

 

Complete beginners who don't want to splash out on lots of fancy gear.

 

Description:

Clever design incorporates round - and - nosed grips, as well as crimping jaws and a wire trimmer.

 

Uses:

- The round section is essential for forming loops, for example at the top of a headpin for earings or at the top of a calotte.

- Flat area is used for gripping and sqeezing it helps to fold box crimps or squeezing a spring end closed.

- The crimping jaw is used for squeezing closed crimp beads. crimps are used on tigertails to secure fastening and also to hold beads in position on thread.

- The wire cutting section easily trims lenghts, for example cutting headpins and eyepins to the correct length.

 


 

 

 

 

ROUND-NOSE PLIERS

Description:

Fine, tapered round nose pliers.

 

Uses:

- The round nose pliers are essential for forming loops, for example at the top of a headpin for earings or at the top of a calotte.

-Round nose pliers are great for bending springs without kinking the wire. The small tip on these pliers reach into tight spaces where other spring bending pliers will not reach.

 


 

 

 

 

CHAIN-NOSE PLIERS

 

Description:

Fine, tapered flat- nose pliers with a serrated jaw.

 

Uses:

- These chain-nose pliers are useful for closing calottes, cpring ends and box cripms etc. The serrated area provides a firm grip.

- With smooth outer jaws and slightly rounded edges for shaping and bending.

 

Notes:

Along with round-nose pliers, the key piece of kit for the enthusiast. You often need to hold a pair of pliers in both hands to make small changes to a project. with their fine ends and serrated edges, these pliers give great control.

 

(do not try to use flat-nose pliers for making round loops e.g the top of a headpin)

 


 

 

FLAT-NOSE PLIERS

 

Description:

Wide, flat-nose pliers with a smooth jaw.

 

Uses:

- These flat-nose pliers are useful for closing calottes, cpring ends and box cripms etc. Allows you to grip flat objects and even straighten bent wire.

- Designed for making sharp bends and right angles with wire.

 

Notes:

Uses:

- wire cutters easily trims lenghts of different wires, for example cutting soft wire, such as Tiger Tail, accuflex, Softflex, copper, aluminum, sterling, goldfill, gold wire, headpins or eyepins to the correct length

- Also essential if you want to experiment with the 'wrapped loop' technique.

 

(not suitable for cutting Memory Wire)

 


 

 

FLUSH CUTTERS

 

Description:

Strong wire cutters, the diagonal edge allows close trmming.

 

Uses:

-This cutter is made of high carbon steel blades that are precision ground to ultra sharp cutting edges. Great for Tiger Tail, Softflex and Memery Wire etc.

BENT-NOSE PLIERS

 

Description:

Smooth-jawed pilers, curved along the nose. Despite its strange shape, this is a suprisingly wersatile and useful tool.

 

Uses:

-Ideal for opening and closing jump rings whilst maintaining a neat circle shape.

-Also great for fiddly jobs in hard to reach places.

 


 

 

CRIMPING PLIERS

 

Description:

Two apertures for creating a double floded crimp.

 

Uses:

- The crimp is first squeezed in the half-moon shape to create a bend. replace the crimp into the smaller gap to fold shut.

- Provide a more secure crimp than flat-nose or chain-nose pliers.

 

 


 

 

 

 

 

GERMAN SIDE CUTTERS 

 

Description:

Strong wire cutters.

 

Uses:

- These wire cutters are for thicker wires.

 

 

 

 


 

 

 

BEAD REAMERS

 

These diamond-tipped reamers are intended for use on glass, ceramic or stone beads. The red and yellow handled reamers are ideal for opening and enlarging bead holes, the green and blue are perfect for softening rough edges to prevent them from cutting into threads.
